Spencer Fane is pleased to sponsor HR Houston’s annual Gulf Coast Symposium on HR Issues on August 7-8 at the Houston NRG Center. Attorneys Laura Alaniz and DeAndrea Washington will speak at the event with Tiffany Santhavi Watts, Tracey Wallace, and Client Development Manager Bernadette Lawson representing the firm at Exhibit Hall Booth 707.
The Symposium is the largest regional conference for HR professionals on the Gulf Coast, hosting over 1,400 HR practitioners, presenters, and providers. Through over 165 sessions, the event delivers superior education in Business Management & Strategy, Employee & Labor Relations, International HR, Leadership & Professional Development, Talent Management, and Total Rewards while also hosting the largest trade show, the Solutions Center, for HR products and services in the area.
This year’s program, Shaping the Future of Work, will feature presentations from Laura and DeAndrea. On August 7, Laura will lead the session, Right to Bear Arms: The Rise of Guns and Violence in the Workplace. This presentation will inform employers about legal developments relevant to workplace violence and better prepare their organizations to address the issue. Then, on August 8, DeAndrea will deliver morning and afternoon installments of her session, When Mental Health Enters the Workplace: Navigating Reasonable Accommodations for Mental Illnesses under the ADA. This seminar will help employers address the rise of mental health issues and effectively manage compliance obligations for related workplace laws.
Ruthie White, the late Co-Chair of the Spencer Fane Labor and Employment Practice Group, was a longtime collaborator with HR Houston, and the firm’s presence at the 2024 Symposium serves to honor her generous contributions to the HR community.
