Spencer Fane was a proud Platinum-level sponsor for the 2024 Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute on October 24-25 in Kansas City. Attorney Eric Johnson spoke at the conference, which served as a joint American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) and University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) event.
During his panel – Receiverships: Bankruptcy Friend or Foe? – Eric moderated a discussion about the basics, pros, and cons of receiverships that also explored specific issues and made comparisons to other options available for creditors and debtors. The panelists offered a presentation, a hypothetical scenario, and examples from their practices that highlighted everything from the different kinds of receiverships to the mechanics behind each to how to navigate challenges that may arise.
At the firm, Eric is the co-practice group leader for the Banking and Financial Services Group and practice group leader for the Bankruptcy, Restructuring, and Creditors’ Rights Group. He focuses his practice on representing bankruptcy trustees, judicial receivers, and assignees for the benefit of creditors in complex litigation and liquidations. Eric has also served as a federal equity receiver, state court-appointed receiver, and Chapter 11 trustee, and is currently a member of the panel of Chapter 7 trustees for the Western District of Missouri.
