September 30, 2024

Spencer Fane attorney Shawn Tuma served as the keynote speaker at XChange Security 2024 on July 16 in Dallas.

During his presentation, Navigating the Cyber Battlefield: Insights from a Breach Quarterback, Shawn dissected delicate cyber incidents, legal ramifications, compliance challenges, and regulatory landscapes in a manner that resonates with modern IT service providers. Walking the audience through his experience, he unraveled the intricacies of cyber threats, focusing on the advanced techniques and tactics utilized by threat actors.

The keynote presentation was featured in a CRN article, Cybersecurity Is An ‘Ongoing Battle’ Not A Technical Fix: Attorney, which outlined how Shawn provided the knowledge and tools necessary to not only mitigate risks but also to effectively manage the aftermath when the inevitable occurs. CRN parent The Channel Company hosted the conference.

The cybersecurity space, Shawn said in his presentation, involves “an active adversary attacking with any and all means available. And the minute you put up some defensive mechanism – policies, procedures, tools – they counter it and they change their tactics. And they find a new way. And then they attack you where you weren’t looking – usually with the people.”

XChange Security, a three-day annual conference, gathered solution providers and vendors together to develop solid partnerships and discover what’s new among security-focused business leaders. Attendees heard from industry experts through interactive boardrooms and breakout sessions and learned about current security market intelligence to accelerate your business goals.

At Spencer Fane, Shawn co-leads the firm’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. He helps businesses protect their information and protect themselves from their information. Shawn is a frequently sought-out thought leader who represents a wide range of clients in dealing with cybersecurity, data privacy, data breach and incident response, regulatory compliance, computer fraud-related legal issues, and cyber-related litigation.
