Spencer Fane attorney Karen McCay presented at the Affordable Housing Management Association of Northern California and Hawaii’s (AHMA-NCH) 43rd Annual Conference and Trade Show on August 26 in San Francisco.
The two-day event provided a variety of fresh workshops and continuing education classes to over 400 affordable housing industry professionals. Learning tracks included Performance, Leadership, Resident Services, Maintenance, and Compliance.
Karen’s Leadership session, Legal Hot Topics, featured insightful discussion on the most pressing legal challenges impacting affordable housing operations such as criminal background screening, VAWA compliance, HOTMA updates, on-going challenges in processing accommodation requests for the disabled, and new California laws impacting the Affordable Housing Industry. Attendees enhanced their understanding of the evolving legal framework crucial to owners, operators, policymakers, advocates, and other stakeholders.
At the firm, Karen serves as Office Managing Partner for the Spencer Fane San Jose and Santa Monica offices. She also maintains a robust practice involving all aspects of real estate and contract law, with particular emphasis on operational issues in the multifamily housing industry. She is also a former member of the AHMA-NCH Board of Directors.
