Jose Castro Joins Panel on Defending Democracy at ABA Midyear Meeting

June 14, 2024

Spencer Fane attorney Jose Castro served as a panelist on the many ways lawyers can defend democracy at The American Bar Association (ABA) Midyear Meeting on February 2 in Louisville, Kentucky.

During the presentation, Stepping Up, Lawyers Defending Democracy, Jose participated in a discussion of the myriad opportunities for lawyers to defend democracy, including opportunities to provide pro bono assistance to election workers who have been the victim of threats, harassment, and other egregious actions; engage and educate their local communities about how the election process really works; serve as poll workers; and general civic engagement and public service opportunities.

The presentation was featured in an April ABA State and Local Government section article, Wanted: Democracy Warriors for U.S. Elections (please note a subscription may be required).

At Spencer Fane, Jose serves as a full-service litigator representing public, private, and corporate clients in all their litigation and land use permitting needs. He specializes in various forms of litigation related to real estate, focusing on land use actions, condemnation issues, and easement disputes. Jose also assists clients in navigating through land use and zoning permitting procedures established by different municipalities and agencies.
