Courtney Lutz Creal and James Crumlin Honored with Southeastern Legal Awards

May 13, 2024

Spencer Fane is pleased to announce that attorneys Courtney Lutz Creal and James Crumlin have both earned honors as part of The Daily Report and Law.com’s 2024 Southeastern Legal Awards. James and Courtney will be formally recognized for achievements in their respective areas at an awards gala on June 20. They will also be featured in individual profiles in a June special section.

Courtney is recognized among the On the Rise honorees, which recognizes those under age 40 who are innovators, develop unique practice niches, amass robust books of business, demonstrate strong leadership qualities, show expertise in litigation or transactional work, and commit themselves to pro bono charitable and professional volunteer work.

As a Distinguished Leaders honoree, James is honored as a lawyer who achieved impressive results in 2023 and demonstrated clear leadership skills that helped achieve those results. For James, this was leading the firm’s DEI overall efforts – including programs, initiatives, and events – and pursuing equity and equality on all fronts throughout the firm.

The Southeastern Legal Awards honor attorneys who excel in their profession and “have left an indelible mark on the legal community in the southeast and beyond through their unwavering dedication to the profession.” Originally called the Georgia Legal Awards, they now cover more areas, including North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. This change shows that legal excellence is being recognized all across the region.

At Spencer Fane, our DEI efforts are spearheaded by the firm’s DEI Committee. Chaired by James, the Committee works in tandem with the Executive Committee and other firm leadership to build, maintain, and leverage a diverse and inclusive law firm that strengthens our clients and communities through a variety of initiatives.

In her practice, Courtney successfully manages and resolves her clients’ most critical litigation matters across a wide variety of practice areas, focusing on highly contested divorces and custody actions. In addition to his work leading the DEI Committee, James helps clients navigate the corporate legal landscape and avoid costly mistakes, so employers can focus on running successful operations.
