Spencer Fane attorney Andrew Brought recently authored an article published by HR.com that discusses new workplace safety protocols California businesses must implement in 2024 under the state’s Senate Bill 553 to protect employees from violence at the workplace.
Drew’s article, Workplace Violence Prevention Plans: What California Employers Need To Know, explains key components of the new law which aims to increase employee safety. The piece initially appeared as a firm blog post and details some of the requirements a business’s workplace violence prevention plan must meet.
“There are a variety of training and recordkeeping obligations,” Drew says before noting several examples. “The new law also broadens who can request Workplace Violence Restraining Orders and procedural mechanisms to further protect victims of potential violence.”
At Spencer Fane, Drew counsels manufacturers, industrial clients, and businesses with complex environmental (EPA) and workplace safety (OSHA) challenges. He is also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
