Spencer Fane attorney Shawn Tuma recently presented at the Cybersecurity Collaborative webinar, covering cyber law and compliance.
Titled “Mitigate: Know Where Your Team Is Tied Into The Compliance Program,” Shawn explained best practices for organizations to assess and understand overall cyber risk. He discussed the importance of developing and implementing a strategic cyber risk management program, including a plan for compliance with contracts, business partners, and regulatory statutes.
Shawn highlighted the reasons companies should consider using an attorney to assist in managing cyber compliance, noting that “someone needs to guide you through the process of making sure you are responding in an appropriate manner, and that your team is working properly.” Shawn continued to warn that “You’ve got to also have someone guiding that process to make sure you’re not making mistakes in your incident response that are going to cause major problems when you have to deal with those regulatory agencies.”
