John Watson Explains EPA Good Neighbor Rule for Law360

Spencer Fane attorney John Watson recently served as a guest columnist for Law360 and discussed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s finalized Good Neighbor Rule. The regulation aims to restrict nitrous oxide smokestack emissions.

In his article, EPA’s Good Neighbor Ozone Plan: What Cos. Should Know, John expanded upon his March firm blog post to analyze the new air quality standard for power plants and industrial facilities. He summarized crucial aspects of the rule and discussed its current and potential impacts on the power industry.

“The phased retirement of coal-fired electric generating capacity is a certainty,” John said. “As well, the rule appears to provide significant incentives for expanding renewable energy sources.”
