Bill Hopkins Named to Nonprofit half Helen Board of Directors

December 28, 2022

Spencer Fane attorney Bill Hopkins was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for nonprofit half Helen Foundation.

In this leadership role, Bill will assist the organization with governing issues, fundraising and serving as an ambassador to increase community awareness regarding the issues around vision problems in kids and adults and the need for increased access to screening, early diagnosis and treatment.

The half Helen Foundation provides vision and hearing screenings to low-income elementary school children, connects their families with medical care, and advocates for improvements in screening practices. As of 2021, half Helen had screened over 60,000 children in Hawaii and Texas.

Discussing the foundation’s mission, Bill shared, “When a child or adult realizes they are struggling to thrive because they cannot see properly, that is the beginning of a whole new opportunity for them to literally see what they have been missing in life. That is incredible.”

At Spencer Fane, Bill helps protect health care providers and companies against the many potential pitfalls in the industry, serving as both an advocate and educator for his clients in administrative law, regulatory defense, compliance, and litigation. He ensures that the legal aspects of health care are covered, so his clients can maintain their focus where it matters most – providing health care.

Bill also currently serves as a board member for People’s Community Clinic Foundation Board and Governing Board, the American Red Cross-Central Texas Chapter, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Texas Club Membership Committee/Ambassadors Council.
