The Kansas City Business Journal recently featured Spencer Fane’s industry-leading growth trajectory in an article spotlighting the firm as being among the fastest-growing in the nation.
In the article, How Spencer Fane Became the Fastest-Growing Firm on AmLaw 200, reporter James Dornbrook explored the drivers behind the firm’s continued strong performance, which was highlighted by the American Lawyer, which publishes an annual AmLaw 200 ranking of the largest law firms in the nation.
“I think it comes down very simply to our value proposition for clients and talent,” Spencer Fane Chair Patrick J. Whalen told the Kansas City Business Journal. “That might sound fairly generic, but when you drill down on the type of value that gets captured by our clients, we believe it’s the best in the business. It really does come down to value and values: the value we’re creating for clients and the values we instill around our culture.”
The firm’s focus on value and values led to the addition of more than 100 talented attorneys joining the firm in 2021, including “experienced attorneys Dan Nelson, a 20-year veteran prosecutor; Tom Bell, former CEO of the Kansas Hospital Association; Jason Flower, former Husch Blackwell LLP Environmental Practice Group leader; and Dan Blegen, former Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association president and German May PC partner,” the Kansas City Business Journal reported.
“I think as many firms grow, they become increasingly bureaucratic,” Pat said. “Our focus is on being both highly collaborative and highly entrepreneurial. It’s our view that one of the key ways of fostering collaboration is by making sure that each professional in the firm has a high level of self-determination. One of the reasons we rank among the very highest in terms of job satisfaction is because of that level of autonomy we’re providing our professionals.”
