Spencer Fane attorney Ben Shantz recently published an article in the Springfield News-Leader discussing the housing affordability crisis in America.
The article explains the causes behind the lack of affordable housing options and possible solutions. Ben focuses on the Springfield, MO area, noting that since 2020 there has been a 10.8% increase in housing prices.
“Housing affordability is especially problematic for folks who are just now buying their first homes, starting families, and building wealth,” Ben explained in the article. “Bloomberg recently estimated that folks born after 1980 own homes at significantly lower rates than their parents did at the same age.”
Ben also emphasized how modifying zoning restrictions could potentially lead to a more viable housing market in Springfield.
