August 19, 2019

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Peter Riggs has joined the firm as of counsel in the Kansas City office. He will work in the Financial Services practice.

Riggs is an experienced litigator and regulatory attorney advising clients across the financial services industry in litigation, government and internal investigations, and bankruptcy and creditors’ rights matters.

Most recently, Riggs spent 10 years with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), serving as a Chief Trial Attorney in Kansas City since July 2014. The CFTC’s mission is to “foster open, transparent, competitive and financially sound markets. By working to avoid systemic risk, the Commission aims to protect market users and their funds, consumers, and the public from fraud, manipulation, and abusive practices related to derivatives and other products that are subject to the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA).”

“Spencer Fane looks forward to integrating Peter’s unique skillset into the Financial Services group,” said Pat Whalen, managing partner for Spencer Fane. “We value the ability to use the diverse backgrounds of our attorneys to provide creative, collaborative solutions to our clients’ most important legal matters. The addition of Peter demonstrates our focus on high-level services and the firm’s ability to understand our clients’ businesses.”

Riggs completed his undergraduate studies at Barry University before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law.
